Immigrating to Canada is a challenging choice and one that requires us to adapt in various areas of our lives, especially in relation to our career. Many people seek professional growth, others choose to make a career transition, or even discover themselves as entrepreneurs. The fact is that the Canadian job market promotes many opportunities, but the journey to get a job requires dedication. But what would be the challenges faced during this journey in search of professional fulfillment?

1) CANADIAN EXPERIENCE. First, there is what we call the “Canadian Experience” that many companies demand and that makes us worried as soon as we start our job search. The question that many people ask is: how can we have the Canadian experience if we have a hard time getting a first chance? Understand that this experience can be acquired not only through a job in your area, remember that every profession is valued and can bring you a lot of learning. In addition, it is always important to consider volunteering, which will be incredibly positive for your career. Another factor that also counts as an immersion in the Canadian market is study, that is, those who come to study at a college are already starting their Canadian experience there.

2) LANGUAGE FLUENCY. Another important factor is fluency in the language, which in the case of Canada includes English and French, depending on the province. It is essential to consider evolving your skills and seek effective communication, as it can be a great differentiation in your placement in the job market.

3) CANADIAN RESUME AND COVER LETTER. One of the most important factors is to understand the specifications of the Canadian market. The structure and information contained in the Canadian resume is different from other countries, including Brazil. For example, in Canada, companies use the ATS (Applicant Tracking System), in which they filter candidates using keywords that must be included in your resume. In other words, you need to be aware of this need to customize the resume to the standards of the country and the vacancies you will apply. In addition, Canadian companies have the practice of requesting the famous “Cover Letter”, which is nothing more than a letter in which you will introduce yourself as a professional and declare your intention to work in that company.

4) NETWORKING. Many people have difficulty in building relationships, but it is essential to expand their network of professional contacts, from which many opportunities and learning for their career can arise. Stay tuned for recruitment fairs, workshops, webinars, lectures, courses etc. In addition, a tool that is highly valued in Canada and that can be crucial for building your professional image and networking is LinkedIn. Another practice that can expand your network is the informational interview, which allows you to exchange knowledge with various professionals in the field.

5) INFORMATION. Some difficulties may arise due to lack of information. I strongly recommend searching for information about the job market in your area. In addition, Canada has ten provinces and three territories, so you need to keep in mind the need to understand the formats of, minimum wage, professions in demand, and legislation of the place where you will live. It is also especially important to be familiar with Canadian culture.

The Canadian job market is waiting for you, but dedication and a constant search for information and adaptation are required. Therefore, I suggest creating a plan not only for the immigration process, but also for your career and job search process. In addition, it is important to anticipate the probable needs that a professional may have, being curious, always looking for the new, and trying to stand out through their qualification.

CHOOSE YOUR DESTINATION, SEARCH FOR INFORMATION AND BE READY TO EMBARK ON THIS INTENSE AND GRATIFYING JOURNEY THAT IS THE CANADA PLAN AND THE SEARCH FOR YOUR PROFESSIONAL GROWTH!
